River House Whole Home renovation
A thoughtful transformation of an 1856 riverside home, balancing its New England character and heritage with a quieter, more modern, minimalist way of living. The dramatic exterior was the start; the renovation continues inside.
In progress
A new chapter for a historic home, inspired by the surrounding landscape.
The original house wore a familiar New England palette of red, white and blue. While full of character, it lacked the quieter presence the owners were hoping to create.
The first stage of the renovation reimagines the exterior in a deep, colour-drenched green, allowing the architecture to sit more naturally within its wooded setting. Rather than standing apart from the landscape, the house now feels grounded by it.
Inside, StudioVera is redesigning the first-floor layout and shaping the kitchen, bathrooms, living and dining spaces in detail. Extensive built-ins and a dining banquette set within a panoramic window will bring function and character to the new plan, while finishes, flooring, lighting, furnishings and final details carry the same calm, considered approach throughout.
The aim is a home that feels refined but easy to live in, respectful of its history without being held back by it.
The new exterior palette changes throughout the day, shifting from almost black in low evening light to a softer green beneath the surrounding trees.
